Born in Tharad, Built for the Villages
Trees give shade in the long summers of north Gujarat, hold the soil in place, help rainwater soak into the ground, shelter birds and give fodder, fruit and wood to families. A village with more trees is cooler, healthier and better prepared for a dry year.
Yet many plantation drives fail because saplings are planted and then forgotten. Without water, protection from animals and someone responsible for them, most do not survive the first summer. Our programme is built around survival, not just planting.
Native Tree Plantation
We plant trees suited to the local climate, such as neem, peepal, banyan, khijdo, desi baval and arduso, chosen with the village for shade, fodder and soil protection.
Tree Guards and Watering
Each sapling is protected with a tree guard, and watering is arranged with local volunteers until the tree is established.
Green Schools
Plantation in school grounds, with each class taking care of its own trees.
Sapling Distribution
Saplings for farmers and families to plant on farm boundaries and near homes.
Clean Village Drives
Cleanliness drives and awareness against plastic waste and open burning.
Environment Awareness
Talks, competitions and celebrations on World Environment Day and other occasions.
Select the Site
We choose sites with the panchayat, school or landowner and agree on who will care for the trees.
Prepare and Plant
Pits are dug and saplings are planted during the monsoon, when survival chances are highest.
Protect
Tree guards keep animals away from young saplings.
Care and Count
We water, replace saplings that do not survive, and record survival after one year.
